Neil Young in Concert: 1970-1979
Neil Young and Crazyhorse-- Music Hall, Cincinatti, OH-- 2-25-70
A fantastic performance by Neil and Crazy Horse in their early days together. The acoustic set includes a wonderful version of the Buffalo Springfield song "Broken Arrow" and a lovely performance of "The Old Laughing Lady." The second set has a great, long jam on "Down by the River."

Neil Young Solo-- Carnegie Hall, New York, NY-- 12-4-70 (late show)
Neil has a habit of doing an acoustic solo tour every few yeras, and if you have never had a chance to see one-- be sure you make it possible the next time he does one. I have always felt that it takes a special kind of musician to hold an audience's attention with only a guitar and some songs. Neil, who on the one hand can explode with a wall of electric sound, can mesmerize an audience with his simple melodies and quirky songs-- highlights of this set are "Down by the River," "Expecting to Fly," "Nowadays Clancy Can't Be Wrong," "Flying on the Ground is Wrong," "Bad Fog of Loneliness," and "Birds."

Neil Young and the Stray Gators--Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario, Canada-- 1-15-73
This is the tour that the Time Fades Away release came from. Starting off with a nice acoustic set, including a great version of "Borrowed Tune," Neil paved the way for an electric set. This show has stand-out performances of "Last Dance," "New Mama," and "Lookout Joe." Another show worth getting from this tour is the 2-23-73 Fort Worth, TX show, featuring a great performance of "Last Trip to Tulsa."
On The Way Home / Tell Me Why / L.A. / Journey Through The Past / Borrowed Tune / Out On The Weekend / Harvest / Old Man / Heart Of Gold / Lonely Weekend / Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere / Time Fades Away / New Mama / Alabama / Last Dance / Don't Be Denied / Cinnamon Girl / Lookout Joe / Southern Man / Are You Ready For The Country?
Neil Young and the Santa Monica Flyers-- The Palace Theatre, Manchester, England-- 11-3-73
This show features most of Tonight's the Night performed live, along with some very strange and interesting commentary by Neil between tunes. There is a boot cd of this show entitled Speakin' Out.

Neil Young Solo-- Bottom Line, New York, NY-- 5-16-74
This is really one of the best tapes I have ever heard of NeiL. Apprantly this set was completely unannounced and happened after the scheduled Ry Cooder show had come to an end. Neil plays most of On the Beach during this intimate, solo-acoustic set. Neil also gives a recipe for making honey slides-- a little marijuana treat for all you homemakers! This show was released as the bootleg entitled Citizen Kane Jr. Blues
Pushed It Over The End / Long May You Run / Greensleeves / Ambulance Blues / Helpless / Revolution Blues / On The Beach / Roll Another Number / Motion Pictures / Pardon My Heart / Dance, Dance, Dance
Neil Young and Crazyhorse-- Boston Music Hall, Boston, MA 11-22-76
The early and late shows cover evrything you could ever want to hear from this tour. Neil toured Europe, Japan and America this year-- as well as doing a tour with Stephen Stills. The extended soloing on "cowgirl in the Sand," "Down by the River," "Like a Hurricane," and "Southern Man," as well as the acoustic gems like "Give Me Strength," "Pocahontas," "Campaigner," and "Harvest" make these tapes well-worth finding. There are some exceptional quality audience tapes of this show out there (especially considering the year).
